THE SHOW
HILLHEAD
BUXTON, UK
Hillhead is the largest Quarrying, Construction and Recycling Exhibition with over 600 exhibitors and spread over three days. Hillhead attracts nearly 20,000 industry visitors from across the quarrying, construction and recycling sectors. The working demonstration areas are what make Hillhead unique. Having the opportunity to see plant and equipment doing a real ‘job of work’ in a live quarry environment is invaluable for both exhibitors and visitors alike.
THE BRIEF
We want to take a very different track to previous shows. We want to look forward to the future electrification of the industry and show our progress towards this aim.
We need to also show all of the
innovative business tools we have available to prise further efficiencies from our products.
Above all we need to show we are at the forefront of the change that is occurring within our product portfolio and that we are rapidly moving
forward to a very different world.
Thats easy isn’t it?
THE DESIGN
THE DELIVERY
The big question was how we show what is coming in the future, without the new products that are physically in development and show SMT Volvo as being at the pinnacle of innovation. How could we show them as something different to the competition?
Working through and expanding the brief with the clients, we decided on a bold and never been done before approach using the very latest AV technology to create a full technological approach to the required story telling.
Multiple touch screens showing business areas, a 12m wide video wall presentation, interactive programming on touch tables allowing an in depth delve into the product portfolio, sound scaping and a full experiential tour through Volvo SMTs business opportunities really did surprise and get the message delivered.
Volvos heritage was closely shown through an overall scandi design theme running throughout the welcome, hospitality, meeting, Volvo Financial Services and Volvo Penta display areas, allowing for customer interaction with there staff in a most unexpected environment for a quarry floor.
Detailed design touches such as a free to use phone charging and hydration station outside added a warm feeling along with a clever overall entrance design that welcomed and drew in visitors where the entrance tunnel to the exhibition was a real surprise!
THE OUTCOME
In conclusion, the client comments said it all.
“Let’s keep this and let’s try to re-use it is
brilliant”.
On leaving the pavilion SMT Volvos Senior
Directors stopped me and said “David – You have really created something here. So well done”.
