BBC Laugharne

Client: BBC Wales

This event needed us to build in the grounds of a Grade 1 listed castle under the control of CADW engagement with multiple organisations and stakeholders. This typifies our abilities to plan and deliver an event in the most exacting conditions, ahead of time, budget and client expectation.

Firstly the BBC really wanted to do something special for the Dylan Thomas centenary in Laugharne but was finding a possible location with vehicular access, big enough to house all of its requirements including a two full broadcast studios very challenging.

The only space big and central enough was the castle area itself but this is also an important highly regulated grade one listed site location.

Following on from some previous very successful work together, the BBC contacted us to see if we would be willing to project manage and deliver the entire project for them incorporating the needs of Radio Cymru, Radio1, Radio2, Radio 4, Radio 6 and the BBC News and culture departments.

“I just wanted to say a special thank you to you for all the help and support with ‘Laugharne Live’ over the weekend, and in the weeks, months, and days leading up to it. It was great knowing that you were on hand to assist and advise as needed Pat, especially with such a complicated site as the castle, and always diplomatic when dealing with everyone: whether BBC, CADW, or other council and emergency services involved across the planning phase.

A big thanks must go to you Jon for doing such a sterling job over a busy few days, working closely with the BBC production and tech teams on site.

I think the visitor numbers we experienced in Laugharne & such positive feedback provided with very few issues to my knowledge were testament to all the hard work we all put in beforehand, and the smooth running of the main marquee over the weekend: all helping to make the event a great success, and I am so grateful to both of you for that. Best wishes and I look forward to working with you all again soon.”
